Portugal has a rich history of tiles; in the 13th century tiles, or Azulejos, decorated plain walls in churches, palaces, homes, and schools as an ornamental art form. Historically these tiles were neutral in color, either blue and white or white and brown.
Olhao is known for being next to the Ria Formosa landscape, one of Portugal’s natural wonders. To represent both the natural wonder in Olhao and the history of tiles I used colors I found from the Ria Formosa lagoon in the design of the tiles to add more excitement and taste.
